When Modern Was Trunk Show Presents Katie Gilmartin

Katie Gilmartin

April 30 and May 1, 2011

Meet Katie and view her amazing block prints. We will be serving, wine, cheese and chocolate. See you there!

About Katie Gilmartin — She valiantly attempted to embody the anguished suffering artist, but chronic waffling and backsliding forced her to resign herself to a life of delight, abundance, and gusto. She now devotes herself to the proliferation of art as play; her work aims to remind us of the redemptive power of pleasure. She creates images that celebrate mirth, comfort, ease, fecundity, exuberance, bliss, and lust. These are our birthright and, in a just and therefore peaceful world, would be available to every one of us in abundance.

November and December Trunk Shows: Grouse and Badger

November 13, 2010

On November 13 Sheri showed up at 11:00 am for her Trunk Show; she brought her wonderful typewriter key jewelry and her new cupped watch parts that she rivets by hand and turns into rings, bracelets and necklaces. They are very cool and unique, definitely conversation pieces. If you could not make the Trunk Show, we picked up a bunch of her pieces that we are showing in the store. Check it out! She comes again on December 18, we will keep you posted.

July 10 Event

Summer Event

July 10, 2011

Dona went on a buying trip to the East Coast and came back with fabulous vintage jewelry pieces to ignite your wardrobe. Big and bold to small but spectacular, you will find something you can't live without. WMW received 7 handmade benches made from 300 year old beams from an old Chinese Temple. Each piece is unique and hand rubbed to show off the grain and color. Last but not least, WMW received a delivery from our favorite furniture painter, Vickie Torell, who uses colors that are fun and trendy. She specializes in silver leaf, hot pinks, bright turquoise and metallic blues.

Opening Launch

Opening Launch

May 1, 2010

Dona Taylor will always remember the night of February 22. "I woke up in the middle of the night and said to my husband Bill," I want to open a furniture business on 24th Street. Find me a place. And he did!" A few short weeks later, on Saturday, March 13, Taylor opened When Modern was on 4037 24th Street with the help of her husband, Bill Hoover. The high visibility on 24th Street has already paid off. On opening day at the new shop, she sold four dressers and five lamps, plus several jewelry pieces and other miscellaneous items. WMW formally celebrated her arrival on 24th Street on May 1, 2010 with a day long party open to all with catered food and drink, and music by Noe Valley singer/songwriter Frank Cefalu and Friends.
